PROTECTION OF CUTTING BETWEEN MANGAL MAHUNDI-LIMKHEDA STATION BY USING HSBN NET AND SHOTCRETING

On Delhi, Mumbai railway track, between Dahod and Godhra, a cutting reach 1041 M long, 23 M maximum depth exists. Due to fractured rocks existing in the deep cutting reach, the strata were collapsible and had given trouble and obstructed the heavy train traffic.

Rock bolt 25 mm dia. 3m long were inserted by drilling, inclined, horizontal and vertical holes in the jointed rocks using cement grout capsules in the drills holes, to connect the jointed rock. Nearly 40 MT of rock bolts were used to connect the jointed rocks.

The shotcreting, 100 mm thick in two layers with 100 mm x 100 mm, 12 gauges welded steel wire mesh and 50 mm thick was done covering 15017 sq M surface area on both sides of deep cutting.

HSBN Net procured from Garware Wire Ropes was fixed in 16795 Sq M area after rock bolting in low height area, on either ends of cutting portion to arrest fall of boulder. This was a very busy electrified rail track and work had to be carried out strictly in power block period only.
